South Africa’s inflation eased to 4.6% in July, its lowest level in over three years, which has boosted consumer spending power. This marks a significant moderation in price pressures, suggesting the worst of the inflationary spike is behind us. In the US, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.2% in July, bringing annual inflation to 2.9%. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, also rose by 0.2% month-on-month to an annual rate of 3.2%. Both figures were in line with expectations. This is the lowest annual inflation rate in the US since March 2021 and the lowest core inflation since April 2021.
